Heavy metal hardcore Great avatar anyway! Durch die weitere Nutzung der Website stimmen Sie dem zu.

I don't even want to talk about the dubbing Well that pretty much sums it up, it's animated like it came out of a kindergarten and the story isn't much better.

The audio track is also lacking, which is sad for a "heavy metal" movie, it never feels like it's adequate to the "action" on the screen and overall also feels cheap.

Don't watch it, you'll just waste your time. TedEBear 24 April After all the surrounding hype that built this one up, I was really, really let down.

While the original was uneven in parts due to its anthology nature, it at least had great animation and an excellent soundtrack to hold it up.

Heck, the traditional cel animation wasn't done very well, either; the shadowing was off and proportions weren't properly held when a character was turning.

The colors were as dull and flat as the personalities of the characters. And why is it the female non-humanoid aliens look like somebody just drew an alien head on a humanoid female body?

Made in the style of the original, it has a strong reminiscent of the eighties. Unlike the first one that is an omnibus, this one has only one story, but the story and characters at the level of the first movie.

There is a bit less nudity and violence, and the soundtrack, although weaker than the one from the '80s, has several really good tracks, performed by the great names of its time.

Those who loved the first should likewise love this one. First off; this movie is not as good as the first one, but it is still really excellent.

The movie has a great story, and great music. I just bought the sound track for the movie and it is awesome. Do not mistake this movie as a Disney type for the whole family; it is full of sex, violence, gore, and many dirty words.

This movie is definitely worth watching. Thoreandan 20 May This film could have been so much, and yet they delivered such a pile of crap.

This film is a piece self indulgence by the new forces at the helm of Heavy Metal, and it comes off as if it was written by Beavis and Butt-head.

This film attempts to rip off the last "Taarna" sequence as a feature-length film, with horrifically bad dialogue, with gaps in the dialogue filled with swear-words when they couldn't figure out what else to put there.

I think that sitting through this film can actually kill brain cels with the sheer force of its awfulness.

It didn't even manage to come off cheesy or campy, it's just so God-awful BAD. Another movie like the first would be really welcome -- rest assured, this is NOT it.

Save your money. If you even shell out to rent this, go into it expecting garbage. I pity the animators who put work into this, as there are some well-animated bits, but the horrid writing and direction kill it utterly.

Maybe I'm the only one But I do think this film is superior to the first in many regards, the most significant being storyline.

Beyond it having quirky, cult appeal, the first Heavy Metal didn't pull me in- because it isn't really a movie - It's more a compilation expo of amateur animation, like a really gory Liquid TV of old.

Heavy Metal is a solid story uniformly executed, and it's even gasp coherent. Unlike the first film, which nobody fully understands and if they say they do, they're kidding themselves.

And I am not in the camp of those who believe that counterculture animation has to be esoteric to be enjoyable. Also the manual animation is better than the original's, while still being sloppy and humble enough to maintain the amateur, "We haven't sold out- We're still a bunch of geeky, sex-obsessed artists huddling in our basements drawing hot chicks in skimpy outfits" look, and the coloring which I assume is digital is much richer and more lifelike than the first film ever achieved.

I am also not in the camp of those who believe that digital coloring marks the end of craftsmanship in animated films.

There is a villain in this movie, too, a pretty good one who even made me laugh a couple times, and a few other nicely rendered characters, including a little guy made of rocks who ends up saving the day.

Now, the BAD: The "music" is dumb. It's just background noise that sounds all the same, but the first Heavy Metal was like that, too.

The leading lady, Julie, is pretty awful in the voice-over department. Also there is some gratuity in this film that was not an issue in the first one, probably because promiscuity and technology have sharply inclined at about the same rate since the first Heavy Metal.

LOOK at them! We're breaking ground! Doing what no other animated film can do! It's terrible! But we're doing it because we CAN! Sure, maybe it's not as "daring" and "artistic" as the first one, but I will take clarity and gradual storytelling over jumbled, interpretive art any day.

When this movie started I was already telling myself what a mistake it was, but as it went on I really did want to see how it would end.

This is not a bad movie, but it is different in technique from the first one.. So, if you really liked the original Heavy Metal, you might not like this one, and vice versa.

It held my interest, and it deserves kudos for that. Oh, and be sure to catch the nod to Punisher, as Tyler dons a familiar white-skulled ensemble for the final scenes.

Here is an example of a movie that is everything its predecessor was not. The first one was groundbreaking. It was adult. It was not politically correct.

It had sex and violence that was intense. It had several storylines and animation styles. It was an original.

Somebody must have said something like, "What would happen if we made a sequel that had even more of the stuff from the first movie? What they forgot to do was watch the original and see why that still stands on its own nearly 20 years later.

The music is forgettable. The differing animation styles and the use of computer animation is far from seamless. In fact, it's jarring and distracting.

And the characters are hardly interesting at all. Let's look at that. She is badly acted by Julie Strain. My God, is she bad.

And that's a direct reflection on the director, who has, among his many duties, a responsibility to get the pacing and tone and rhythm of the voices to work.

They don't. Please, get better. Don't disappoint me. But it just got worse. The jokes got lame, the pacing more uneven, the dialogue more idiotic and cliche-ridden, until I finally just turned it off.

The movie just has no redeeming qualities that I could see. After the disappointing let down that was the original Heavy Metal film, i stumbled upon this sequel.

Hell of a lot better than the first Heavy Metal movie, which was an inconsistent mess of a show.

However, its awesome animation was thrown together with a less than intriguing storyline, making the overall product a huge waste.

First of all, the title did not make any sense. Why call it "Heavy Metal"??? The only thing "Heavy Metal" about it was the few metal rock songs that played at certain parts of the movie.

Whats more, the heavy metal songs never fit in with the scenes that they accompanied; coming across like they were thrown into those scenes as an afterthought.

Moving swiftly along to the story A miner named Tyler gets "possessed" by some ancient shard of evil and goes on a quest for immortality after hijacking a ship.

On his way to a planet which has a legendary fountain of immortality, stops by a planet who's inhabitants carry some immortality "essence" in their bodies.

Tyler and gang massacres the whole colony and takes prisoners, leaving the main character, Julie, behind. Julie vows to avenge her family and kill Tyler before he reaches the fountain of immortality Straight forward and with little twists.

Even a 10 year old can understand it. Which brings me to my next point, in that a 10 year old should not be allowed to watch it. It is definitely a film for adults with its numerous cursing, bloody violence and nudity.

Thats something i've rarely seen in animation; and its taken to new heights in Heavy Metal without feeling excessive.

All the characters are written with little depth or dimension. The stellar acting, however, redeems the otherwise uninteresting characters. Tyler expertly played by Hollywood actor Michael Ironside is among my favorite animated villains of all time.

His voice is spot on and Ironside delivers his every line with such menacing enthusiasm that he actually sounds like he enjoyed his role a lot.

If one can just ignore the less than interesting storyline and one dimensional characters, this movie as some of the most breathtaking animation ever seen in a long while.

It is on par with big budget productions like Titan A. E and Steamboy. THe frame rate is exceedingly high leading to exceptionally smooth, lifelike movements.

The CGI blends well with the 2D animation for the most part. What really blew me away was the level of detail in both the CGI and the 2D art. THe 2D art actually had blended shadows!

A huge rarity in animation. The original actually contained several graphic sex scenes. This film pulled out pun intended just in time.

Michael Ironside does a great job as the villain, exuding menace over his character's poor animation. But overall, it's barely worth watching Looking for something to watch?

Directors: Michael Coldewey , Michel Lemire. Tyler invades Eden, and kills many of the Edenites, capturing some so he can extract the immortality fluids from their bodies.

He also keeps the attractive Kerrie for his own sexual purposes. When Germain resists the idea, he is left on Eden.

Kerrie's beautiful sister Julie, who survived the attack, finds Germain and they team up to follow Tyler. At a renegade space station , Julie finds Tyler at a restaurant and critically injures him.

However, he ingests a vial with the immortality serum and heals instantly. Julie escapes the explosion; she and Germain board a shuttle-craft that latches onto Tyler's ship with a tractor beam before it jumps into hyperspace.

Discovering them mid-travel, Tyler tries to shake them off, but the fight causes the hyperspace to collapse and the two ships to crash. Julie wakes up on the desert planet called Oroboris, and meets a mysterious cloaked sage named Odin and his assistant, Zeek, a rock-like creature, both of whom are guardians of the ancient fountain.

Elsewhere, Tyler's ship has been destroyed and most of his crew and abductees are dead. Tyler orders Dr. Schechter to extract Kerrie's fluids.

He explores the planet and finds a race of reptilian beings, which he conquers by defeating their champion and then their leader in a death match.

Julie enters the reptilian city in disguise as a woman that the reptiles found for Tyler. That night, she seduces Tyler, but when she tries to kill him, Zeek captures her and takes her back to Odin.

Julie infiltrates Tyler's ship where she discovers Kerrie is still alive. She takes out Dr. Schechter, frees Kerrie, and escapes as the complex explodes.

As a result, Tyler vows to make Julie immortal so he can "screw her and kill her every hour of every day for all eternity. At the citadel, Julie undergoes a ritual where she is outfitted in armor.

She, Kerrie, and Germain help the fountain's guardians defend against Tyler's army. In the fighting, Lambert suffers a near-fatal injury and while reaching for Tyler's last vial of immortality serum, he knocks it loose from Tyler's belt and it breaks on the ground.

Tyler, enraged, kills Lambert for the blunder. Tyler then walks to the pit of immortality and is about to put the crystal into the fountain's final lock but is stopped by Julie.

The background art is excellent. The music is provided by various heavy metal bands, but little of it fits in the film.

The score to the film, however, is better than you would expect. This film has very little nudity and essentially no sex.

What nudity it has is pretty bland. Admit it, you picked up this film looking for illustrated nudity. Well, you won't find much. Since the original film, anime has made its presence known in the U.

While I credit Kevin Eastman with getting this project going, I believe he lacked the experience to make a movie. If the film had the backing of an experienced producer, the film may have benefited.

I've watched this film many times. Well for one thing, we just don't have very many animated films made in America that are directed to adults. Hopefully our wishes will be fulfilled.

Quite honestly, they should have just kept the budget for the magazine and stayed out of the movie business.

In short, you only get one story with this one. The story line is badly developed and loaded with animation that would make Hanna Barbera beam with a new found sense of superiority.

I will admit to getting some of my prepubescent kicks with this magazine, but when that novelty worn down I discovered that there was indeed a large cache of very well down comic artists.

Some very unique material indeed. And sadly, with the first Heavy Metal movie, while they presented various stories and artists, it was apparent they were still under budget constraints.

But I do contend that this recent movie was pretty much an insult to the Heavy Metal magazine name and the people whom have enjoyed it over the years.

Not as good as the original, but worth a see. I found this film on Sale at a music store. Months earlier I had bought the original from another music store and I found it to be pretty good!

This new version I will say right off the bat, is not as good as the original. However this film has some awesome effects, great characters, and a not too bad story.

This movie follows on one large story unlike the original which was a bunch of short ones put together. What I like about this was the whole atmosphere and feeling of an old, early 80's sci-fi film and I like that.

Of course the music is no where NEAR as good as the original! But it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

This film had less nudity but it still contained a nice bit of it. And it is quite obvious the part where she is swimming and than dresses up was taken right from the old film which was pretty cool.

I suggest you be a little open minded and go take a look at this movie. I am telling you right away it is not as good as the classic original, but is worth a see and is no where near as bad as I've heard.

All in all 7. Nordicnorn 2 November Another review here mentioned the likelihood that this was a Julie Strain Ego stroke. I kind of have to agree.

I find her a terrible,not-worth-the celluloid actress, although as a cartoon she is better than in real life. The storyline was really weak.

So weak in fact one has to wonder if they wrote the entire script on a paper cocktail napkin while out drinking one night. True, the first Heavy Metal's storyline was a little disjointed, but it had multiple contributors and was the first of it's kind.

And as the first it was good This one was not fun. You knew where the story was going from moment one. Total formula I could not get involved with these characters either.

The writing just never made me care. Lastly there was no sense of adventure. It was just very, repeat VERY, mediocre.

Leave it on the shelf at the video store. ATA 25 September HM is a fun, action-loaded adult-animated movie that makes no apologies for being what it is: a guilty pleasure.

I loved the mixture of 2-D and 3-D animation, and the voice performances by Julie, Mike and Billy are wickedly impressive.

Based on "The Melting Pot", a comic book by Simon Bisley, Eric Talbot and Kevin Eastman Julie's husband and head of the adult illustrated magazine "Heavy Metal" , HM is wickedly twisted, telling the tale of a power-mad space pirate who wants to live forever and the female warrior who wishes to stop him since she murdered her people and destroyed her homeworld.

I wished this movie came out in US theaters, but movie-house owners are too chicken, fearing parents and politicos. What the heck is "The Simpsons" and "South Park"?

Instead of a honest adult-animated film, there's a con job named "Titan A. E" which bombed at the box office.

This sequel's more respectful of the classic, and I hope there's plans for a third "Heavy Metal" film. Keep the metal heavy!

The first movie had its memorable moments even though it was very uneven. The film really feels like it was made by 12 year olds. In fact, had the film been produced by actual 12 year old boys, I'm sure it would have been just as juvenile but more honest in its approach.

As is now, the film feels too restrained. It's as if the producers were willing to go all the way but had to make a couple of changes here and there before the film was going to be release.

The end product is watchable barely but the grasp of every movie making technique is stunningly retarded. The voices are terrible. The female heroine is really stiff and she looks like a 40 year old mom.

The sexuality is truly infantile. I'm sure if HV had been made by 12 year olds, we would have seen more lesbo action. The music was angry and hard and yet anonymous sounding.

And some scenes looked really bad, like when they go through the "warp" hole and when the female parks her ship on the other bigger ship.

Some scenes during this moment were mystifyingly bad. It looked like the movie just stopped and they started to show someone playing an arcade game.

I still think that if they got a great team behind a third movie, the whole idea would still rock. This movie has left me so disappointed that i must write this review If you haven't seen the first heavy metal movie, so better watch it, and please understand that it is about the magazine!!

The acting was abysmal, the writing was atrocious, the plot was simplistic, the animation was atrocious and a waste of production, the whole movie lacked in every respect.

I had great hopes for Heavy Metal , when I saw the original Heavy Metal a year or so ago, but when I finally set eyes upon the film, I I was disgusted I also felt that Heavy Metal was filthy in all the wrong places and for all the wrong reasons.

A disgrace to the original "Heavy Metal". Excuse me while I go burn this atrocity. I got it for free and I feel cheated.

Pretend that you watched a superbly animated, engrossing film with and excellent hard yet fitting soundtrack. Sadly, too many have already and too many to come will not heed these sage words.

What remains, for those who have suffered through this movie, is poor animation, plot and dialogue concocted by a first-grader no offense to first graders , and not much else.

This movie insults anime. This movie insults action films. This movie insults animation. This movie insults heavy metal the music genre.

This movie is so bad that it insults, well, everyone who watches it. If you have not, count your blessings.

Forget about the bad-ass action and welcome to crappy animation! I'm not sure what the hell they were thinking but i've rarely seen animation so poorly done, the movements are ridiculous and the 2D drawing part is badly integrated with the 3D scenery.

It's even bad to the point that when you get a scene with only 3D stuff, it actually looks much better I don't even want to talk about the dubbing Well that pretty much sums it up, it's animated like it came out of a kindergarten and the story isn't much better.

The audio track is also lacking, which is sad for a "heavy metal" movie, it never feels like it's adequate to the "action" on the screen and overall also feels cheap.

She stabs Tyler in the left eye before he is able to place the crystal in the lock. A fight ensues, but Tyler appears to have the advantage, until Odin intervenes, which allows Julie to finally kill Tyler.

After Tyler is left dead, Odin, throwing off his cloak, reveals himself to be the last of the Arakacians. He has been in hiding all these centuries, waiting for someone to find the chamber key and be drawn to the fountain.

He intends to claim it as his own, and reestablish the Arakacian empire. However, Zeek pulls the crystal key from the pedestal, locking Odin inside the fountain chamber forever, and flies into outer space.

As Germain and Kerrie help Julie to her feet, Zeek envelops the crystal into himself and becomes a new asteroid to hide the key for all time.

The game is set some time after the film and features cameo appearances of several characters, for example, Julie's sister Kerrie, the pilot Germaine now married to Kerrie , and a resurrected Tyler.

After the release of , a third film has been in various stages of development since then. During [4] [5] and into , [6] reports circulated that David Fincher and James Cameron would executive produce, and each direct one of the eight to nine segments for a new film based on Heavy Metal.

Eastman would also direct a segment, as well as animator Tim Miller , with Zack Snyder , Gore Verbinski , and Guillermo del Toro attached to direct segments.

However, Paramount Pictures decided to stop funding the film by August [7] and no distributor or production company has shown interest in the second sequel since.

In , filmmaker Robert Rodriguez announced at Comic-Con that he had purchased the film rights to Heavy Metal and planned to develop a new animated film at the new Quick Draw Studios.

The Heavy Metal Original Soundtrack is the soundtrack album to the film of the same name.
